It started one winters day in 2016, whilst drinking hot chocolate on the Pier in Walton-on-the-naze. A combination of intrigue and interest as to
'exactly how many piers exist in the UK?
why do some places have/not have piers?
why do people flock to piers?
are there different types of piers?'

So armed with a list of 48 Piers, taken from the National Pier Society website, and naughty classic postcards to date stamp our trips, we set off on our adventure.
However, as you will see our list just kept on growing and growing as the refurbishment and redevelopment of many lost piers were undertaken by national and local heritage societies. It is these heritage and cultural protectors whom this blog is dedicated to. They ensure these cultural beacons are maintained for years to come!

Visiting Piers has been a huge part of our exploring the UK. Without the Pier challenge we would probably have never visited some of the locations we have - of which a few of them are now favourite seaside destinations for us.

Join us as we explore the questions we set out with and the history behind some of the most beautiful locations in the UK!
